The talks for the Toronto International Film Festival 2020 have started and as per the latest development, the festival is set to take the digital route. TIFF has been one of the most prestigious international film festivals to celebrate global movies over the years. However this time it won’t be like earlier due to the ongoing pandemic situation. It has also been revealed that Indian stars like Priyanka Chopra & Anurag Kashyap have been named as the brand ambassadors of the 2020 film festival.

Reportedly, Priyanka Chopra and Anurag Kashyap will be accompanied by the likes of Taika Waititi, Nicole Kidman, Martin Scorsese, Ava DuVernay, Nadine Labaki, Rian Johnson, Alfonso Cuarón, Lulu Wang, Tantoo Cardinal, Riz Ahmed, Jason Reitman, Isabelle Huppert, Claire Denis, Atom Egoyan, Viggo Mortensen, Zhang Ziyi, David Oyelowo, Rosamund Pike, Sarah Gadon, and Denis Villeneuve, among others.

As per The Hindu report, the press release of the upcoming film festival has revealed that the 45th edition of TIFF will take place from September 10-19, and will be “tailored to fit the moment”, with physical screenings and drive-ins, digital screenings, virtual red carpets, press conferences, and industry talks.

It is announced that the film festival will have 50 films screening during its first five days in physical theaters. Proper social distancing will be maintained during screenings and it will be ensured that festival venues and workplaces practice, meet, and exceed public health guidelines.

Meanwhile, it’s the first time that TIFF is opening a digital platform to enjoy the show. Talking about TIFF taking the digital route, Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director and Co-Head, TIFF said, “The pandemic has hit TIFF hard, but we’ve responded by going back to our original inspiration – to bring the very best in film to the broadest possible audience. Our teams have had to rethink everything, and open our minds to new ideas. In countless video calls over the past three months we have rebuilt our festival for 2020 drawing on our five decades of commitment to strong curation, support for filmmakers and engagement with audiences. We have listened to this year’s urgent calls for greater representation of under-represented voices. You’ll see that this year at the festival.”

He added, “And we have watched as audiences have embraced cinema’s ability to transport them through screens of all sizes. You’ll see that too. We’re excited to present thoughtful, high-impact programming this September that reflects our belief that there’s no stopping great storytelling.”
