Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh that released almost a year ago gave rise to a debate that still seems to be on. Now, after almost everyone has expressed their thoughts about the film, Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter has opened up about what he feels. Ishaan thinks the film was made with an intention which many did not understand and below is what he has to say.

Kabir Singh starring Shahid Kapoor was a remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy that starred Vijay Deverakonda. The film was called out by a huge number of people for its misogynistic approach and also a misinterpretation of several aspects of a relationship.

Now, Shahid Kapoor’s younger brother Ishaan Khatter has opened up about the allegation. Addressing the fact that cinema has a certain language in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ishaan said, “I think most people largely misconstrued the film and there was a very big argument about how the hero and his actions were glorified. I feel that is the language of the film, that is the choice of the director to showcase a character in a certain manner. It depends on which perspective and lens he is looking through. The treatment will be determined by that lens.

Talking about the debate about women feeling unsafe watching the films, Ishaan Khatter said that he understands the lack of comfort but he also gets the character on screen. The man isn’t on the right path and is behaving out of impulse is what he felt. He also cleared that he is someone who is against misogynistic behaviour of any kind.

Ishaan talking about his take on the film added, “But I think cinema is perceived in an individual way. I think a lot of people, who perhaps accepted that or saw that as the right thing to do and saw the films and that really scared a lot of viewers and I completely understand that. I think that is the reality of not only our country but around the world. One of the arguments was domestic violence and I think that is a very sensitive issue and I don’t think anybody who is attached to that film will condone it. I can’t speak for others but I believe that the film was made with the intention that was not understood by a lot of people.”

On the work front, Ishaan Khatter was last seen in Dhadak. The actor now has a good line up with Khaali Peeli, Phone Booth and the BBC mini-series A Suitable Boy.
